Elder Care & Dignity
In-home visits, health monitoring, livelihood exchange, and standing companionship — ensuring every elder lives with honor and belonging.
A youth-led movement restoring intergenerational dignity across Zimbabwe — one elder, one child, one volunteer at a time.
Our Three Aspects —
Muzukuru & Elder Caregivers

Muzukuru & Elder Caregivers

Hibiscus Dotage Foundation was born from a simple observation: across Africa, the wisest among us are quietly being edged out of the room. We are the generation that decided to stay in the room with them.
We are a youth-led, Zimbabwe-rooted movement working at the meeting point of dignity and design — building an intergenerational infrastructure so that growing old is met with care, purpose, and belonging.

“When an elder in Africa dies, a library burns. We are not going to let another library burn on our watch.”
Each pillar can stand on its own. Together, they form the scaffolding of a generation that shows up.
In-home visits, health monitoring, livelihood exchange, and standing companionship — ensuring every elder lives with honor and belonging.
Transformative volunteer movement. Empowering young citizens through deliberate self-discovery, relational leadership, and Ubuntu.
The grandchild intervention. Supporting vulnerable children under the care of elders with educational support, welfare, and intergenerational security.
Intergenerational gatherings, oral history archives, and feasts that place elders and youth back at the centre of society.
From Harare's high-density suburbs to the quiet paths of Manicaland, we walk village by village — not to save, but to sit. To listen. To restore what was never meant to be lost.

A trained young volunteer arrives every week. They sweep. They cook. They stay. Presence is our first medicine — and often the one that lasts longest.

Blood pressure checks, medication reminders, mobility support, referrals — coordinated with clinics and quietly documented. Care that respects privacy.

We record the recipes, the songs, the migrations, the wars survived. A living archive of Zimbabwean elderhood — for the grandchildren not yet born.
Learn More
Feasts, storytelling nights, birthday celebrations. Because loneliness is a public-health emergency — and joy, a legitimate response.

Every volunteer completes training in listening, ethics, first-aid and heritage. The work changes the elder. It also, quietly, remakes the young.
Learn MoreThese are not numbers. They are Wednesday afternoons on a porch in Mbare. A neighbour's medicine collected in Bulawayo. A song remembered in Mutare that would otherwise have vanished.
Hibiscus Dotage Foundation was born from a simple but uncomfortable question:“Why is it easier for one parent to raise five children, yet when those children are grown, they struggle to give back the same love to that one parent?”
In Zimbabwe, and across Africa, aging is too often misunderstood. Harmful stereotypes paint the elderly as burdens, irrelevant, or even accused of things they are not. But aging is not a disease — it is a sacred way of life. And a society that values youth while neglecting its elders builds a future with no roots.
Yes, the future is young. But the future is empty without honouring those who birthed and shaped it.
This is all engraved in our mantra — Young For The Elderly.
For elders who are able-bodied and still eager to contribute. We champion the longevity economy — where elders are active contributors, not passive recipients.
For elders who are sick, disabled, or living without support. We fundraise, advocate and provide essential medical assistance.
For elders who suffer deep loneliness. We surround them with presence, love and community.
For elders behind bars. We remind them that dignity does not expire.
For elders raising grandchildren. We support those children with fees, mentorship and care — because the wellbeing of a child is intertwined with the elder who raises them.
A quiet, uncommon board — engineers, lawyers, accountants, physicians, marketers and operators — who chose to spend their best hours on the elders of their country.
